Art Lending Library comes to Inksters
3 May 2012
Inksters enjoyed having an original print by Alec Finlay hanging in our reception space. As part of the
Glasgow International Festival of Art, the
Market Gallery have worked with artist duo Walker and Bromwich on a project that aims to enable everyone to enjoy– albeit temporarily – a piece of art by borrowing it from their
Art Lending Library. Situated in the
Mitchell Library, anyone can go and choose from an eclectic range of work and keep it for three days. Over 60 artists have kindly donated work for the duration of the festival. The library itself is a sculptural object created by Walker and Bromwich, with the crates that the art is transported in forming part of the structure which constantly changes as work is removed and replaced.
As part of the project, a team of professional art handlers in matching uniforms will arrive at the borrowers chosen location, be it home or office, and install the work. They return three days later to remove it, and take it to the next borrower.
The work that Inksters chose by Alec Finlay was
Circle Poem (You Have To Choose) (2011), a screenprint from a
suite of 12. Finlay is an internationally renowned artist, poet and publisher who is known for his work with poetry and the written form, as well as the innovative use of web-based transmission of his works.
