Three way tie again for 2014 Shetland Junior Chess Championship

For the third year running the Inksters Shetland Junior Chess Championship resulted in a three-way tie, with Duncan Burgess, Leon Riise and Luke Riise sharing the prize money after a fascinating fifth and final round. Just like last year, the tournament result hinged on a game between Luke and his elder brother Leon, and just like last year Leon blundered in a winning position to set up the tie on 4/5.

For 2014 there was a new prize for the highest placed Primary School entrant, and it was perhaps inevitable that a three-way tie would ensue here too! Maks Inkster, Jack Petrie and Theo Smith scored 3/5 and shared the prize.

The Shetland Chess Club recorded its thanks to former Shetland and Scottish Junior Chess Champion, Brian Inkster, whose firm has sponsored the event for the last four years. A spokesperson for the club said "Brian’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious".
