Eilidh Ross gives talk at Crofting Law Conference

Today Eilidh Ross was speaking on 'Options for renewables on croft land and common grazings' in the afternoon session on Renewables and Crofts at the Crofting Law Conference organised by the WS Society in association with the Crofting Law Group. The Conference took place at the Signet Library, Edinburgh with just over 80 delegates in attendance.
Eilidh's talk covered the various options available to landlords, crofters and developers if they wish to pursue a renewables project on croft land or common grazings. This included Resumption from Common Grazings, Decrofting or Resumption of inbye Croft Land, Schemes for Development and Section 50B applications.
The Conference was chaired by Lord McGhie, Chairman of the Scottish Land Court and President of the Lands Tribunal for Scotland. BBC Alba were in attendance to film the keynote talk by Jamie McGrigor MSP - Convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Crofting - on the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010: The future of crofting in Scotland.
Iain Dewar, Directorate General of Governance, The Scottish Government, gave the Views from the Government on the Implementation of the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010. John King, Registration Director, Registers of Scotland, gave an update on the Crofting Register. Community Mapping was covered by Derek Flyn, Croft Consultant. A lively Q&A panel session took place on the Implementation of the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010.
After lunch Calum MacDonald, former MP for the Western Isles, gave a call for a ‘Crofter Renewables Act’. Eilidh Ross then gave her talk on Options for renewables on croft land and common grazings. This was followed by Some issues for renewable hydro developments from Robert Sutherland, Advocate.
The Conference ended with a roundup of recent crofting case law from Neil MacDougall, Advocate.
