Alternative Business Structures Conference
7 May 2010
Brian Inkster took part today in the Alternative Business Structures Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow. The Law Society of Scotland who organised the event asked Brian to stand in, at the last minute, for Saleem Arif of QualitySolicitors who had to cancel due to travel disruption. As Inksters were the first member firm in Scotland of the Quality Solicitors Organisation, Brian was able to put the case for the QualitySolicitors Brand to the delegates as part of a 'Dragons Den' style 'What the experts say' session alongside Nick Jarrett-Kerr of Jarrett-Kerr Consulting and Stephen Gold of LBC Wise Counsel. Brian also discussed the position of niche law practices in the ABS debate: What John Flood has referred to as the 'Rise of the Boutiques'.
It was a very interesting day which included:-
- Stephen Boyle, Group Economics Royal Bank of Scotland, on 'Where is the economy now and where will it be in 2 years time?'
- A keynote session with Professor Stephen Mayson, Professor of Strategy and Director of the Legal Services Policy Institute at The College of Law in London.
- The Why's, What's, When's and How's of ABS with Alan Campbell of Dundas & Wilson, Michael Clancy OBE of the Law Society of Scotland, Jamie Millar of Brodies and Phillip Yelland of The Law Society of Scotland.
- What clients are saying about ABS with Martin Stepek of the Scottish Family Business Association and Anthony Rush of Harrish Rush Associates who is a CBI Scotland Council Member.
- What our future leaders say with the Winners of the New Lawyers Conference Competition: Neil Morrison of Wright Johnston & Mackenzie LLP, Alistair Sloan (Law Student) and Michelle Hynes-McIlroy of www.roadtrafficlaw.com.
- Closing Keynote session with Andrew Woolley discussing his virtual law practice, Woolley & Co.
